The island of Motu Nui is the largest of the three islands located just south of ' Easter Island . The other two islands are Motu Kao Kao and Motu Iti . Motu Nui belongs to Chile and is also the most westerly town located in Chilean territory. A Motu Nui nest every year the terns gray , and right to them is linked to the Cult of Man Bird , who replaced the worship of ancestors moai .

Every spring the tribes chose a warrior who was to participate in the rite, consisting of a dive from the cliff of the volcano Rano Kao (almost 300 m) at the site of Orongo , and the consequent achievement of Moto Nui swimming with a bundle of reeds as a float and once on the island, the warrior must collect a tern egg, and bring it back to earth at the High Priest. Who came first unscathed (the risk of an attack by sharks , or that the egg is broken, were very strong) was appointed Bird Man and worshiped as a god on earth, and his tribe was granted the jurisdiction of the island for a year. The next spring, the ritual was repeated.
