Roughting Linn Waterfall, Northumberland, England:

Roughting Linn Waterfall, Northumberland, England:

Rough Ting Linn is the name of a farm near Lowick in Northumberland on the B6525 just after the turn-off to Ford . On the site, after a nearby waterfall named farm, is one of the largest and best preserved rock carvings north england with cup-and-ring markings . The dome of sandstone is about 20 m long and 12 m wide. The western edge of the outcrop is damaged by a powered up to 1850, quarry. Most designs are based on the principle of a cup, which is surrounded by several rings, but the forms are numerous. One of the cups, starting from the center of a straight groove, there are three horseshoe-shaped carvings. Unusually are also located outside the radial line bundle. Many motives are complex. Near the center two cups are surrounded by long curved grooves which terminate in small cups. Most designs are deeply etched and well recognized.
