Ko Phi Phi Don,Southern Thailand:

Ko Phi Phi Don,Southern Thailand:

Ko Phi Phi  is a small archipelago of six islands in Krabi Province, Southern Thailand. It is touted to be one of the most beautiful yet easily accessible island groups in the world, and it pretty much lives up to this reputation. This area has something to offer for everyone, right from the languorous sunbathers to the compulsive adrenaline junkies. A must see if you hit the Krabi Province, which itself is a must see if you visit Thailand! The entire region is part of a marine National Park, and hence abundant in all types of marine life. One can just stand at the Pier and witness thousands of colorful fish swim around in the clear water below.Ko Phi Phi Don, the largest and only populated island. You will not believe the amount of development this place has undergone, which is almost entirely restricted to the narrow sandbar separating two of the island's most prominent beaches. Marketed as a tropical island, the flurry of activity around the numerous supermarkets, restaurants, tattoo parlors and ATMs may just surprise you. Rest assured it delivers all the natural beauty it promises, amidst this rampant commercialization. Most of the development of Phi Phi Don is situated in or around Ton Sai village, which is on the low, sandy isthmus that joins the two hilly spurs that comprise the rest of the island. There are also other, quieter resorts on Long Beach, Laem Thong, and at other less accessible areas of the island. Ko Phi Phi was devastated by the Indian Ocean tsunami of December 2004, when nearly all of the island's infrastructure was wiped out. Redevelopment has, however, been swift, and services are back with building regulations in place to limit the height of new buildings to preserve the island's stunning views. It should be noted that, while very laid back, many of the local islanders are Muslim. You will lose considerable respect if you walk around town in your skimpies . While many tourists do in fact parade down Main Street in their Speedos or thong bikinis, to avoid offending your hosts, it's usually best just to throw on a pair of shorts or a sarong; similarly, topless on the beaches, while grudgingly tolerated by most locals, is also probably best avoided.
